THE RULES FOR 11th EDITION

LIST BUILDING RULES

Utilize Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition Incursion Rules with the caveats and restrictions listed below.

Points Limit:
Incursion sized-game. 600 points maximum.

Detachment:
You may only use 1 detachment. Detachments can be any detachment point level.

Army Must Include:
1x Unit with the Character keyword to be designated as the Warlord.

2x Units with the Infantry Keyword. These can be Units with the Character keyword.

Datasheet Restrictions:
Each unique datasheet, except datasheets with the battleline and/or dedicated transport keywords, can only be included in your army once. Datasheets with the battleline or dedicated transport keywords can be included in your army a maximum of two times.

Datasheets with the Epic Hero keyword are not eligible to be included in your army list.

Datasheets with a T (toughness) characteristic of higher than 9 are not eligible to be included in your army list.

Only a single Datasheet where the T (toughness) characteristic is 9 can be included in your army list.

PLAYING A GAME

Games of King of the Colosseum utilize Chapter Approved 2026 Missions. Tactical Secondaries must be used (no Fixed Secondaries).

Follow the standard sequence for playing a Chapter Approved battle.

Mission Twists
Determine a Mission Twist after the Determine Mission Step.

Choosing the Twist:
Detachment Points are utilized to determine which player will choose the Twist for the game.

The player who is utilizing the detachment worth the least amount of detachment points will choose a Mission Twist.

If both players are utilizing detachments worth the same amount of detachment points then the players will roll off. The player who wins the roll off will determine the Twist.

Mission Twists Available:

Martial Pride: A battleline unit can start an action in a turn in which it made an advance move. A battleline unit can shoot in a turn that it started an action.

Night Fighting: Each unit is not visible to enemy models unless they are within 18” of that unit, and each unit cannot be targeted by indirect fire weapons unless the attacking model is within 18” of that unit.

Nowhere to Hide: Terrain features do not have the Solid rule.

Ruinscape: When a unit makes a normal or advance move, models in that unit have the Mobile keyword until that move ends.

Mirrored World: The players both replace their primary mission card with the same one of the following. If both players agree on one of them, use that primary mission. Otherwise, roll a D6 to determine a primary mission.

  1. Battlefield Dominance
  2. Meatgrinder
  3. Outmaneuver
  4. Gather Intel
  5. Sabotage
  6. Roll again

Scrambled Communications: The players exchange primary mission cards

TERRAIN RULES

In the Colosseum, terrain and objectives are always in the same position.

OBJECTIVES:
There are a total of five objectives.

There is one centre objective. As this centre objective does not have terrain it does not block line of sight or grant the benefit of cover.

There are four terrain area objectives.  A home objective for each player, and one expansion objective for each player.

Colosseum walls (terrain) touching the terrain area objective are also part of the footprint, which means miniatures touching the Colosseum walls on any side will count as being on the corresponding terrain area objective.

TERRAIN:
All terrain taller than 2” is Dense terrain with the solid keyword. Parts of the terrain that are shorter than 2” is considered Light terrain.

The four terrain ruins inside the Colosseum (central area) are counted as tall enough to provide the benefit of Plunging Fire for miniatures on the second level.

Unlike our previous edition, the outer Colosseum walls are now treated as regular Dense terrain and can be moved through by infantry, swarms, and beasts or with the Mobile rule as per the standard 40k rules.

DEPLOYMENT ZONES

Measure 8” from your board edge and this is your deployment zone. The opposing player does the same.

PLAYER
TERRITORIES

Split the battlefield in half to determine player territories.

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • You have a limited number of units; use them wisely.
  • Killing your opponent is important, but scoring points wins games.
  • Scout moves, Infiltrate, and deep strike on such a small board could be a tactically brilliant move, a mistake, or both. Use them at your own peril.
  • “Objective Secured” units can be invaluable, or they can be a trap. Again, Colosseum is not regular 40k- it’s fast and furious and a heck of a lot of fun.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What is the distance to climb over the main arena wall for a non Infantry beast or swarm?

A. Assuming the model is at the base of the wall, it would have to spend 7 extra inches to get to the other side, not including the size of the base. (3.5 inches up and 3.5 inches + base size down)
